Marketing Ideas For Small Country Town To Atract Tourists.?

I live in a small attractive and interesting country town (1000 population) just outside (1 hour) a major tourist city (130,000 population) and would like to increease visitation through activities and events for the benifit of local tourist based businesses. Any ideas?
Learning to spell would be a start!
A really great restaurant is a good start and build from there once you have an attraction. Good country shopping for homemade goods since all we have are box stores would attract as well…a market if you will…or both at the same time and build brick by brick….that is what people are clamouring for, getting rid of in terms of taste and quality, the same old food joints (e.g. chains) and the same old products (e.g. chains)
